Sunday 8th March 2020 : Social Paddle

7 of us had a super paddle this morning from Point Walter over to the Swan Kayak Club building where the annual ‘Rod Fry’13 km race started and finished. We launched from beach then paddled to the end of the Spit , which is actually closed to the public to give peace and quiet to the nesting birdlife !  We had to be vigilant for the crossing of the boating channel , to the north side of the river.

After seeing the tail-end of the racing paddlers , we headed downriver for a look at the ‘Millionaires’ ( or ‘Billionaires’ )? homes , perched high on the cliff-tops, then we crossed back over to Blackwall Reach , before making our way to our vehicles at Point Walter , but instead of the 25 minute paddle around the Spit , we ‘cheated’ by portaging the sandy peninsula !     ‘Dragging’ was probably the correct term, as ‘Portaging’ is really the French word for ‘carrying’ !

A great day had by all.
